The Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation believes that education plays a leading
role in the fight against hunger and homelessness. With that in mind,
shortly after its founding, CAHF began offering instruction in food
handling and sanitation. The Training Institute was established to equip
emergency food providers with the necessary management, organizational and
interpersonal skills to effectively run their agencies and to give
occupational instruction to personnel of soup kitchens, shelters, day-care
centers and public restaurants.
In January 1999, the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation debuted
its ground-breaking Oliver's Kitchen program which provides occupational
instruction for the homeless, welfare-to-work participants, the unemployed
and the underemployed.
